*peeks head out* Is the wankstorm over? (In browsing around the SPN misogyny wank, I did manage to find someone who I would wish into a cornfield though. /o\ Go me?) I do have thoughts on the matter, but I don't know if I feel like sharing them with the class. I don't like getting in disagreements with friends. Strangers are fine to disagree with because there usually isn't any lingering fallout and it's easy to just walk away. But that's also probably because I don't care about their opinions, whereas I do care about the opinions of my friends. It's funny that the OMG!misogyny side is screaming about being condescended to, yet in my browsing around and occasional commenting, I found that the worst offender of arrogance and condescension was by one of their most vocal members. I was basically attacked and had words and assumptions made about my motives that were completely inaccurate. For the record, I don't see misogyny in SPN. I use the word bitch all the time, pretty much exclusively to describe women-- especially the ones who cut me off in traffic (a much lesser offense than Ruby or Bela are guilty of). Why should I hold a double standard for fictional characters? I don't see what other words Dean
could/would/should have used. Tell me, O flist, what
derogatory slurs should he have used instead? People in fandom call Dean a "slut" all the time. Is that misogyny? Or is it an effort to morph the word into having a less-gendered meaning? What about the Bitch/Jerk exchange. In that context it's okay, even celebrated in fandom. Please explain to me why that's okay, but using a slur as a slur isn't. (Rhetorical question, unless you really feel the need to answer)
This link has a pretty good summary of my thoughts on the matter though.
The Storm!cats have been chasing a fly around the condo off and on for two hours. Mighty hunters they are not. I may have to invest in a flyswatter. (Also I think my screen door must have a gap, because how did the fly get in?)
A NSFW link to the Penis Festival. Hehehehe. *is twelvest*
I've been getting someone scanning my computer ports for the past week (or so my firewall tells me) and my virus protection found a "back-door trojan" in some files that I think it successfully quarantined. Is there any way for me to check for sure? I've run couple of virus checks and nothing was found, but I'm still a little concerned about it.
I'm really looking forward to having three days off. My big plans for tomorrow are to sit at the mechanics for about three hours while I get some maintenance done on Icarus. Or I may walk to the movie theater and catch a flick while they're working, but I'm not sure if the schedule will work out right for that-- have to check what movies are playing. If I can motivate myself to get up early enough I may go pick up some dim sum at
NBC and reward myself for the tedium in advance.
Burn Notice starts up again July 10th. Must remember this.
frayen! I know you've gotten into anime recently, but are you reading manga? If so, I need to pimp you Banana Fish. It's far and away my favorite manga. I'm thinking I should reread it this summer. Anyone else on my flist up for a group reading? I could set up a community and we could read a couple volumes each month and have discussions and links and things. Bueller?
Also! I almost forgot. LJ elections for the advisory board
have started! You have till the 29th to vote. I think if you have a paid or permanent account you can vote once for each account, but I'm not real sure. It might be once per email address. It's a little confusing. Also I have my doubts about how effective it they will be, but as I'm not as invested in LJ as I have been in the past I figure what the heck.
