Lions and Tigers and Bears...
N'awww, I'm kinda sad that I won't be going to Comic Con this year. Sounds like they've got SPN tshirts and a special magazine they're preselling for pick up. And of course the boys and one of the few times we'll actually get to see Eric and the writers. I'm surprised the Sunday tickets sold out so fast. I don't remember them doing that last year. I hope those of you going have a blast though!

I suppose this is where I should also say that I'm not planning on going to Ycon this year? Just too many cons all concentrated in the fall and I decided to go to ones that involved traveling places I've never been before. I'm really gonna miss seeing all y'all though. :( But that does remind me that I need to make hotel reservations for Vancouver and Denver. Anyone looking for roomies? I don't mind making the reservations. OH! Note to self: FIND PASSPORT! (Also don't forget Chase's checkup Tuesday!)

So far my favorite [info]spn_j2_bigbang is [info]thenyxie's Stranger Than Fiction. It's meta passing as fanfic about meta that looks like an episode all wrapped up in Sam+Dean=4evah.

There's no smooth way to change topics, is there, when you're talking about death?

Sometimes you hear a bit of news that you just can't quite believe is true. I met [info]minotaurs at the LA Wincon. We spent a good 20 minutes in the "roadhouse" one evening just drinking and talking about slash fanfic and Supernatural and fandom. I knew who he was, one of the biggest of bnfs, but he was really just a fanboy at heart, a lover of slash and TV, eager to share that love with like-minded people. I'm glad I got to meet him and talk with him. Fandom lost a big part of our history today. It's gonna take a while to sink in.

SPN spoilers
So a real (paraphrased) conversation I had at work a couple weeks ago:

Male Co-worker P: Hey, we're going to be doing the captioning on Reaper!
Me: Awesome! Now all we have to do is convince them to give us Supernatural too!
MCP: Isn't that some chick show?
Me: Yeah, kinda. Me and the gay coworker are probably the only ones here who'd want to work on it. So GIMME!

Anywho, here's some of my thought on last night's fandom outing. ;)

Fanfic rec
Well...

well well...

I have just spent most of my weekend reading fanfic. Now I know you're saying "What's new about that?" but this was just one fanfic. One single wonderful story. (It was quite long). You have two weeks till show comes back. Run, don't walk to read this. You don't have to do what I did and spend an entire weekend reading it. You can take it in chunks (if you can manage to walk away and stop reading it.)

The Fetters of Fenrir by [info]leonidaslion. NC17, Sam/Dean, nongraphic non-con (There's also a series of gen prequels that are linked in the forward which you should read first.)

It is epic.

What I really love about this story is that it read like an episode-- hell, like a whole season, with mysteries being figured out, fighting and wonderful Norse mythology and a monster at the heart of it all, blending canon in so seamlessly yet so twisted, then a sense of tension running through the whole thing as the clock ticks down. It's full of hurt/comfort and then more h/c and even more h/c with all kinds of competence kink thrown in. It's complex and well-written. I devoured it. Don't let the word "berserker" fool you. I'm not a fan of berserker stories. This goes so far beyond that.

It's what I want from a Supernatural movie (Unfortunately 'tho it's a little too AU for that.)

I'll probably rec this at [info]spnroundtable when my turn comes around again, so consider this a preview, a practice run.

(Also art recs.)

PS. Anyone know CSS well enough to help me fix my layout? I got all the images replaced except one and I can't figure out which it is.

The state of me
Ahahaha! My Tinhat, let me showz you it. I was reading friendsfriends and someone was talking about an article in SPIN Magazine... I'm sure you can see where this is going... I almost even clicked on the link before my brain caught on.

Top Five Happy things today:
1) The Supernatural gag reel has been all over lately. After watching, I am slightly embarrassed for the boys! Eeee, who knew I had an embarrassment squick. But [info]destina has a glorious picspam to celebrate the fact that we can all throw away our tinhats now.

2) "The best film of the year is on HBO." I can't wait to see what people have to say after the last part airs tomorrow. I'll actually miss these guys. Or the actors who play these guys. Has anyone read the book? I am tempted to buy it.

3) (This should probably be number one, but I just found out and don't feel like renumbering.) My dad will be getting out of the hospital tomorrow. \o/ He's still got a lot of recovery to do and he'll be on a special diet possibly for at least a year. And he'll have to have more chemo, cut for possible squickiness ) But yaye, he'll be out of the hospital! Scribbles (well, Ste, actually) suggested a pedometer and I thought that might be a nice "get well soon" present. Anyone use one of those or have any recs for makes or models? (I'm thinking of this one.)

4) A fic rec that I'm not gonna use at [info]spnroundtable (I try not to recycle other people's recs and this one's been making the rounds recently, but it's a lovely story and you should all go read it.) And the Devil Makes Three by [info]killabeez. A future fic that picks up five years after "All Hell Breaks Loose." A kinda painful fic where Dean has a life after hunting and Sam can't let go. You can really feel the love between the brothers in this one. Sam/Dean, NC17.

5) More Supernatural doujinshi for me!

5a) New pants for $10. I have a coupon which is the best excuse ever to shop!

I have no idea what to make for food this week. Usually I cook one big main dish and eat the leftovers off and on during the week for my dinner breaks, interspersed with takeout and frozen dinners. Last week was taco salad, but I don't know what I want this week. Hmmm, I do have pasta in the freezer and lemon artichoke pesto from Trader Joe's.

Now I should go shower so I can go shopping. Whee! (I am in a much better mood than I was all last week, in case you can't tell.)

Need to remember to pay bills tomorrow!
Bought a ticket for Comic Con over the weekend. Just for Sunday though. Being there for four days last year wore me out, so just going for what I want to see. Anyone else on my flist going? (okay, dumb question. I know some of you are. Humor me.)

I did nothing over the long weekend and enjoyed it. Of course that meant I had to do laundry and dishes Monday morning.

If you've got HBO, you should try to catch Generation Kill. It's a BBC co-produced miniseries based on a book by a Rolling Stone reporter who was embedded with a Marine recon unit in Iraq at the beginning of the war. I guess they'd call it a docu-drama because it's a recreation not a documentary, but it's really well done and will really make you feel for the soldiers caught in the middle. I bet it's HBO's big Emmy winner next year. There's at least three Marines from the real First Recon unit in it. I saw someone describe it as the ultimate road trip movie.

Trailer:

I still crave a Burn Notice / Supernatural crossover like crazy. Can you imagine the snark if Dean and Michael ever ran into each other? Sam W. would totally have a crush on Michael and it would make Dean pissy. Dean would hit on Fi and get his balls ripped off (metaphorically), then bond with Sam A. over beer. Or Maybe Michael and Dean would bond over gadgets. Michael would be very skeptical about the supernatural unless he came face to face with it. I think about these things too much.

Really good amnesia!Dean big bang over here: What Remains by [info]walkawayslowly. Sam/Dean and the most gorgeous art I've seen yet for the big bangs. "This is the one where Dean loses his memory and himself, and Sam has to find both."

I love my state.

I should probably go to bed now.

Where does the weekend go?
Missing: One squee. Lost somewhere on the internet. (This past week was pretty hellish at work too. Mrrr.)

Hmmm, I want her shoes.

Looks like I might want to go to Comic Con for a day this summer. *^_^* (Second question down.) That could be a day trip, right? Or one of you will let me crash on your floor for a night? *puppy eyes*

I have to keep telling myself it's okay not to read all the [info]spn_j2_bigbang fic the day they come out. I can wait and spread them out over hiatus. *.*

Need to catch up on BF reading/posting this weekend. I am a bad list momma.

Hey look! USA Network knows how to promote a show in its second season! Unlike some other networks I won't mention. *coughCWcough* Which reminds me that there's a copy of the new Chris Kane series floating around somewhere too. I should go hunt that puppy down. Oh, me likey. I hope this one runs awhile. Reminds me a little lot of The Hustle. (even down to the music, wow.) And it's got Chris Kane. And Timothy Hutton. And the guy who played Jake (who is much better here.) ^___^ ETA: Hehe, it would help if I mentioned the name. Leverage, coming this fall to TNT.

Roundtable fic and vid recs.

Okay, off to take another crack at my to-do list.

Oh oh oh, [info]dragyn, [info]dragyn, [info]dragyn, I want to continue the discussion from Lindsey's journal here so we're not clogging up her post. *^_^*

What do you think of sites like Vixy or keep vid? Do you think the software you recommended does a better job than those? (Or have you tried them?) I don't mind paying for something, but I'd just like to buy one thing that does all I want. *^_^*

My weekendz, let me show you it...
I defeated the evol dimmers! Fear me and my awesome lightening and darkening ability. (Only took two days and two trips to Home Depot. Who knew my living room and bedroom lights were WIRED TOGETHER on the same hot line that had to be linked directly together, not through the bedroom switch? Not me. But I do now.) And it only cost me $35 and a broken fingernail. I mourn the nail.

Also this weekend I took my car in for some maintenance. Dear John the Mechanic, I adore you, but please don't be doing things I didn't ask for. Yes, in the overall scheme of things, an extra $50 on a $300+ bill may not seem like much for things that eventually need to be done anyway, but it also went over your estimate and over my budget for things that could have been put off another month and it means I'm going to have to put the next important maintenance off that much longer. Besides I like Jiffy Lube better for my oil changes, since they do what I tell them. Although you did rotate the tires without charging me, so that was appreciated.

On the upside, I did sneak off to watch Indiana Jones while they worked on the car, so it wasn't as tedious as it could have been. I kinda forgot how cheesy these movies are. A fun popcorn flick though. spoilers )

3.16 coda recs.

Things I have to remember to do this week:
- Call eye doc to reorder contacts
- Call other doc to get referral that he was supposed to call me back about last week and didn't, the bastige.
- Make vet appt for Chase and Spooks
- mail bpal swap stuff
- Father's day present-- Kane album?

Mmm, my jsquared porn pic got deleted from photobucket. Wonder if someone reported it. Just a reminder, if you don't like what I post here, it's always friending/defriending amnesty. No drama.

I keep getting these surveys from the DNC asking for my opinion and telling me that it's important for me to give feedback to the party "to direct the course of the election" blah blah blah. I don't know how serious to take them because they're also asking for money. Is the survey an excuse to ask for money and not worth the paper it's printed on? Or are they conserving resources? I'd be much more inclined to fill out the survey if they didn't have their hand out at the same time.

Speaking of-- don't forget the LJ elections. It's important for fandom to get out and vote since one of the candidates seems to be waging quite the dirty campaign. More info here.

They've finally started the construction on our new offices that was supposed to be finished in two weeks. (It's been about a month already.) Rumor has it that we're all getting new computers and flat-screen monitors when we move back in. It's one of those I'll-believe-it-when-I-see-it things, as most of my job-related things are.

The shady tree/shrub that they chopped up last year has grown back nicely and it's shading my kitchen window beautifully this year. Hopefully they won't chop it up again. I don't -think- they will because they did all their chopping a couple months ago, but you never know.

And that's all the news that's fit to print.
