Income taxes are safely mailed off!
Things I am thankful for:
Alicia for the intangibles, Gretchen for the tangibles. Thanks guys, you made me feel loved yesterday.

My favorite twitter feeds:
@jeffrey_donovan - Burn Notice tidbits and cam photos from the set.
@sockington - silly cat antics

(Er, yes I have a twitter account. Mostly use it to follow other people. Texting on my phone gives me the hives 'cause it's just got a number keypad.)

So I have this horrible theory about Ruby that she's really Mary. I know there's been speculation that she's Meg, but what if something happened and she's really Mary? So it's pure speculation, but I've had this sick feeling that that's just the kind of thing that Kripke would pull. Please no spoilers!

I've seen some misconceptions about Dreamwidth on my flist the past few days. )

And with that I run away to work.

Things that have actually amused me today...
I really liked the first episode of Harper's Island. It reminds me a bit of some old Mystery! type stories and the scenery is beautiful.

This is the number one search result under "homosexuality" on Amazon today. No, the title isn't funny, but the tags put on it by users are hilarious. (My favorite is "waste of a good tree.)

Iowa > Amazon.

Items tagged with amazonfail. (By the way, this story has been picked up by cnet, the AP, SFGate and the LA Times. Amazon is calling it a glitch.)

I haven't been sleeping well this past week. Not sure why, but averaging less than 6 hours a night. Woke up yesterday morning just after 8:00 am after going to bed around 3. So after being up for a couple of hours with my eyes just burning, I went back to sleep for three hours. At least my eyes feel better, even if I slept most of the day away. I had some pretty yucky dreams though-- my dad was sick again, I was fighting with my sister, we were driving on this road that triggered my fear of heights (it's hard to explain, but suffice to say there are freeway interchanges in LA I try to avoid driving on. This road reminded me of those.) I know it's because my dad is going to be starting his prostate cancer treatment soon and he sent us a mildly confusing email about his treatment.

Anyone know if there's a way to stop google from picking up your twitter accounts? I try to keep my real name and fandom name separate, but there they are large as life on Google. >.<

Also this week my router crapped out. Luckily I had another one sitting around. (Yeah, I don't spend my money wisely. I've had this router for about a year, unused.) I was worried it wouldn't work because last time I tried it, I couldn't get it to connect to the modem even with about 5 help-desk calls. However since then, the modem also crapped out and was replaced and now the newerish router will talk to the newish modem and thus I was back online quickly and painlessly. :)

Hmm, yaoicon still hasn't announced who their guest of honor will be this year. It's getting rather late for that.

I'm still jonesing for a Dreamwidth account if anyone has an invite burning a hole in their pockets.

Hrm, should I go read fanfic, watch the last episode of Leverage or go for a walk?

Happy Friday the 13th.
Best way to dispute it if YouTube takes your videos down. Please note that this probably won't work if you're just reupping TV footage.

Unpopular fannish opinion? I think Jared looks more like a zombie and less like a goth in the new pictures. BRRRRAAAAIIINNNNNNNNS. (Okay, an emo!zombie, but still a zombie nonetheless.)

I have three goals for this weekend:
1) Do my income taxes.
2) Install Premiere on the laptop and futz around with it to see how I feel about making a music video.
3) Finish watching both Merlin and Sons of Anarchy.
4) Pay my bills.

Four! I have four goals for this weekend!

5) Figure out if it's worth devaluing my condo to get a better property tax rate.

Five! Five things! /Count von Count

Another thing we are captioning at work is Primeval. Cheesey full-of-plotholes BBC shows are fun! (even though I'm not a fan of time-travel dinosaur shows.*facepalm* And I can't help but point out the plotholes-- such as diving into a canal with automatic weapon would probably render said weapon useless. And sticking your bare arm in a giant prehistoric shark's gullet probably isn't the wisest move. Where the hell is your protective gear, you moronic scientist?)

Isn't there an SPN convention coming up before the LA Creation Con? Is it the one in NJ?

I am annoyed at the way heat moves in my condo this week. I turn up the heat and the living room gets toasty, but the bedroom stays cold. It's the same way in the summer but the other way around. I've got a fan blowing in the LR but it's not circulating air into the bedroom and I don't want to put a fan in the doorway. I think I need to experiment more with fan placement.

I am actually tempted by bpal's 13 blend this time. Mmmm, spicy dark-chocolatey goodness. But do I take a chance and buy a bottle untested and pay an arm and leg for shipping? Or try and swap for one after the fact? Or just settle for a decant?

I am tempted to make this my default user icon.
UGH! I've been feeling so unbearably bitchy the past week. I've been picking fights with strangers on the intertubes, yelling at traffic on my way to work, being preemptively defensive when it's not even called for, just a miserable excuse for a human being. I hate when I act like that. Maybe it's time to invest in some St. John's wort again.

It's a damn good thing my job consists of eights hours of sitting in front of a computer with headphones on instead of actually dealing with people. >.< (Also the projects I'm working on are boring and emotionally draining-- a documentary on swinging in New York which is actually boring and a project about Alzheimer's. Ugh, depressing.) I've even been somewhat uncouth to a few people on my flist in their own journals, so I must apologize for that. I'm hoping it's just the PMS nasties so I have an excuse, even if it's not a very good one.

Is it just me or is Jard not his normal sparkly self in the recent F13 pictures? *still nibbles on those hipbones*

(And why isn't my DL manager grabbing all the pictures like it should? *stomps around kicks things*)

AHAHAHA, whoops! Somehow I ended up the maintainer of [info]christian_kane. *^_^* Luckily it seems to be a low-maintenance gig. Hmm, I should probably find a picture for the user info.

Those damn Chevy Impalas...

State Police say they clocked Dillon, 44, driving 106 mph on Interstate 91 in Newbury. It happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Troopers say Dillon, of New York, was driving a rented 2009 Chevy Impala. The posted speed was 65.

(That would be Matt, not Kevin.)

And why is it I only read Entourage fic during Yuletide? (Is there a lot of Entourage AU fic? I can't recall ever seeing any. I don't think I've ever considered that before.)

They're making a Lenore bust, but not a Sam?

Surprise! )

I did pretty good on my goals for last year. Will make some new ones this year. They're more personal things just for me and I don't like "publishing" them in case I fall down on them. Private humiliation instead of public and all that. :) Dad's off the blood thinners, which is really awesome news. Just one more surgical procedure for him, then hopefully we can put the bad medical stuff behind us for 2009. I wish you all health, wealth, happiness and good cheer for the new year.

Okay, I need to go sweep my porch and do some other good luck things around the house-- hey, I watch SPN, of course I'm superstitious.

Where does my time go?
Korea, FTMFW~! Antique Bakery (live action) now with included Gay of Demonic Charm! Raw coming in less than a week. *_*

Oh hai, California Supreme Court, it's gay marriage back for another go round. There's a bit of legalese in this article, but I think my flist can handle it. Basically it shows how the CA Supreme Court may have laid the groundwork for the Prop.8 challenges to come... back in May and in decisions made this summer.

Also I am tempted to send this link to my mother. Some of you will know why.

In my head there is an Entourage episode that has Jared and Jensen guest-starring in it as themselves... but themselves in a relationship with each other. Then Johnny and Turtle and Vince and Eric catch them in what could be a compromising position. Or it could be totally innocent and the Entourage gang spend the rest of the episode in "Are they or aren't they?" land, discussing it, complete with Johnny: "I'd do him." and Vince: "I'd do either of them." And Turtle cracking the fuck up at all of them and making bottom-top jokes.

I hate Supernatural spoilers, but I love speculation.

More substansive SPN comments from me re: Wishful Thinking, 4.08. )

Since I've noticed a few people posting filtered entries, I thought it was another good time for my PSA. This is a drama-free LJ. Friend, unfriend at will. No hard feelings.

Has Sarah Michelle Gellar had plastic surgery?

*FLAILS* I've been wanting this song since I first heard it at the Whisky in 2006. Different Kind of Knight, Kane. Haven't been able to find/hear it since. I love that chorus. Thank you, [info]moonmelody! It's the paint horse song!!

Scream 2008
Had a bitchin' time at the Scream Awards tonight. Both Jared and (Surprise!)JDM were in attendance. Despite the nosebleed seats, it was really fun. My first time at the Greek, and what a gorgeous venue that is. They had the pine trees in the background all lit up a la every horror movie in existence and there was even a little fog in the air. The costume I got worked a treat-- I ended up with glittery purple and black batwings and ears. (I actually came thisclose to buying feathery black angel wings and a black halo, but the wings were gigantic so I went with the smaller glittery bat instead. Sorry, Castiel, maybe another time.) For some reason they never gave out the award Jared was up for. Not sure if the show was running long or what. Maybe Johnny Depp won and it was all prerecorded. Who knows?

A few highlights:
- Tim Burton is a very brave men. They had him ride out over the audience on a rather rickety hot-air balloon contraption.
- Awesome finale that was a tribute to George Lucas, complete with stormtrooper honor guard and laser show.
- Marilyn Manson was kind of a dick.
- Julie Benz and Neve Campbell were gorgeous.
- Hellboy II actually won an award.
- The Dark Knight pretty much swept all their categories, including two awards for Heath Ledger.
- Sir Anthony Hopkins was there to accept a lifetime horror honoree award.
- Preview clip for Watchmen!! (It got the Most Anticipated Award, I think.)
- Also a Friday the 13th clip, but I think it's the same one they showed at Comic Con.
- Lots of fire effects and some pretty excellent stage design.
- The staged pieces were entertaining in an is-this-going-to-be-a-trainwreck? sort of way. See above re: fire.
- Free booze, though all of us had to drive so there was no over-imbibing, still how often does that happen?
- I think they said it's airing Tuesday on Spike TV, for anyone who cares to catch it.

Hey, June's over!
Things that make me laugh out loud... seeing an author post on SPN_storyfinders looking for some fics to read and then she got her own stories rec'd back to her.

Bidding is open at [info]livelongnmarry. I have bid and been outbid already.

Oh, Viacom is being a little bitch. I'm glad I mostly watch user created SPN vids over there. Take that, Viacom!

I thought I mentioned watching the Fringe pilot (New series from JJ Abrams, ie: the "Lost" guy) but I don't see the post, so maybe my LJ client ate it. Anyway, it was a pretty good pilot. I liked the lead woman. ([info]poisontaster I think you would like her too.) Hopefully she'll stay strong and smart. I'm not a fan of Joshua Jackson but he was tolerable here. It's got the conspiracy of the X-files mixed with the mystery of Lost, topped with some nifty special effects. (Also re: leaked pilots... *snickers* I almost wish they'd leaked Dollhouse instead. Two show that look like they've got massive budgets-- which one will get canceled first? And why didn't they keep New Amsterdam? That show was awesome.)

I may have bought myself an iPod for my birthday. Then had buyer's remorse immediately afterwards. Ah well, it was cheap refurbished and I can plug it into my car. Anyone got any suggestions for how I can prevent iTunes from putting its DRM all over my music? (I suppose I should go figure out just exactly what iTunes does, actually.)

Hmm, I've been pondering the definition of RPS AU fanfic recently. Isn't all RPS by its very existence AU? I mean these guys aren't in a romantic relationship with each other in real life. Is there a different meaning of AU that I'm not getting here? [info]loose_pages_sd is setting up a delicious for specifically those stories, but to me all RPS would fall under that umbrella. But it seems that I'm the only one who thinks that. And [info]janissa11 has a post discussing this genre, so what is the definition of RPS AU? With Sam/Dean slash, you can imagine that things take place off-screen but still in the universe, but for RPS you don't have that layer of fantasy because everything either happens or it doesn't. Am I being too literal?

Okay, I need to go feedback a couple of [info]spn_j2_bigbang stories and art, then figure out what I'm doing with my weekend. House cleaning is definitely on the agenda though. And pricing some air-conditioning. And reading-- I'm so behind on the things I want to read. Everyone have a happy Friday. :)

Sam♥Dean 4ever. (I found this surfing friendsfriends and I'm surprised it hasn't been rec'd around more.)

Two SPN fanart recs:
- [info]oatmeal_queen posted the line art for this sometime last week I think, but her colored version is awesome. She did it all with markers. *_*
- Is he going in or coming out? [info]ileliberte's gorgeous Sam.

*laughs and laughs* I hear Amanda Peet is in the X-Files movie as an FBI agent. I think I just decided to never see that movie.

Every time I see someone post that zombie meme I am shocked that they're not picking Queen as their soundtrack. Did no one see Shaun of the Dead? Queen is the ONLY appropriate music when fighting zombies.

We had to caption a McCain commercial last night. Bleack.

My dad started cancer treatment this week and called it uneventful. Yaye.

Yargh, now I'm late to get ready for work. Where does time go? *runs*

Huh, Drama Queen belly up? (Sorry, flocked link.)

I have to take Spooks back to the vet tomorrow because they screwed up on her bloodwork. Grrr. I was hoping to get this all done before June started. At least she doesn't get carsick like Chase does.

Some helpful links if you know someone going through a serious illness. Patient/friend care.

Steve Carlson show last night was okay-- shorter than normal and didn't include the whole band. Dragyn, good thing you didn't come. *^_^* But the Chicken Molé (and company!) I had for dinner beforehand were excellent. I will never look at balloon animals the same way.

I can't wait for [info]spn_j2_bigbang fics. *vibrates*

I updated Firefox on my laptop and now my session saver doesn't work. >.< I'm glad I didn't upgrade on my desktop so all those saved sessions I intended to bookmark can still be opened. On the other hand, yaye for adblocker!

Ahahaha! I can haz Acklez nao plz. (Is there anyone who hasn't seen his ad for the Titanic pendant? Think if we all pooled our money we could hire him to shill for Astroglide or something?)

My sister is trying to talk my dad and stepmom into buying a laptop computer. I think they should go for an mp3 player instead because it's smaller, lighter and more portable, but what do I know. Hmmm.

Quiz that turned out surprsingly accurate despite only being one question... )

Now I'm gonna go have a beer and do the dishes. Both at the same time. Channeling both my inner Dean and my inner Sam. *^_^*

Noted things of note in bullet form:

  • legomymalfoy won the LJ election.

  • 7:30 in the morning is too damn early to get up when you didn't go to bed until 3:00 am.

  • New LJ policies. Surprisingly logical.

  • Both cats are at the vet getting poked and prodded. The anxiety won't go away till they're both home safe.

  • All the new/old SPN promo photos make me happy in my pants.

  • Hellish client still hellish. Wish co-worker would stop making mistakes on their stuff which reflects badly on all of us and gets us all in trouble.

  • Comfort food = tater tot casserole. 20 5 minutes to go. OMG, tasty!

  • It's a good thing I'm getting off work early tonight because I am TIRED!

  • I am going to DL "Great Train Show" podcasts and burn them to CD for my dad's Father's Day present. I think he'll like that.

My weekendz, let me show you it...
I defeated the evol dimmers! Fear me and my awesome lightening and darkening ability. (Only took two days and two trips to Home Depot. Who knew my living room and bedroom lights were WIRED TOGETHER on the same hot line that had to be linked directly together, not through the bedroom switch? Not me. But I do now.) And it only cost me $35 and a broken fingernail. I mourn the nail.

Also this weekend I took my car in for some maintenance. Dear John the Mechanic, I adore you, but please don't be doing things I didn't ask for. Yes, in the overall scheme of things, an extra $50 on a $300+ bill may not seem like much for things that eventually need to be done anyway, but it also went over your estimate and over my budget for things that could have been put off another month and it means I'm going to have to put the next important maintenance off that much longer. Besides I like Jiffy Lube better for my oil changes, since they do what I tell them. Although you did rotate the tires without charging me, so that was appreciated.

On the upside, I did sneak off to watch Indiana Jones while they worked on the car, so it wasn't as tedious as it could have been. I kinda forgot how cheesy these movies are. A fun popcorn flick though. spoilers )

3.16 coda recs.

Things I have to remember to do this week:
- Call eye doc to reorder contacts
- Call other doc to get referral that he was supposed to call me back about last week and didn't, the bastige.
- Make vet appt for Chase and Spooks
- mail bpal swap stuff
- Father's day present-- Kane album?

Mmm, my jsquared porn pic got deleted from photobucket. Wonder if someone reported it. Just a reminder, if you don't like what I post here, it's always friending/defriending amnesty. No drama.

I keep getting these surveys from the DNC asking for my opinion and telling me that it's important for me to give feedback to the party "to direct the course of the election" blah blah blah. I don't know how serious to take them because they're also asking for money. Is the survey an excuse to ask for money and not worth the paper it's printed on? Or are they conserving resources? I'd be much more inclined to fill out the survey if they didn't have their hand out at the same time.

Speaking of-- don't forget the LJ elections. It's important for fandom to get out and vote since one of the candidates seems to be waging quite the dirty campaign. More info here.

They've finally started the construction on our new offices that was supposed to be finished in two weeks. (It's been about a month already.) Rumor has it that we're all getting new computers and flat-screen monitors when we move back in. It's one of those I'll-believe-it-when-I-see-it things, as most of my job-related things are.

The shady tree/shrub that they chopped up last year has grown back nicely and it's shading my kitchen window beautifully this year. Hopefully they won't chop it up again. I don't -think- they will because they did all their chopping a couple months ago, but you never know.

And that's all the news that's fit to print.

A post for Scribbles...
*peeks head out* Is the wankstorm over? (In browsing around the SPN misogyny wank, I did manage to find someone who I would wish into a cornfield though. /o\ Go me?) I do have thoughts on the matter, but I don't know if I feel like sharing them with the class. I don't like getting in disagreements with friends. Strangers are fine to disagree with because there usually isn't any lingering fallout and it's easy to just walk away. But that's also probably because I don't care about their opinions, whereas I do care about the opinions of my friends. It's funny that the OMG!misogyny side is screaming about being condescended to, yet in my browsing around and occasional commenting, I found that the worst offender of arrogance and condescension was by one of their most vocal members. I was basically attacked and had words and assumptions made about my motives that were completely inaccurate. For the record, I don't see misogyny in SPN. I use the word bitch all the time, pretty much exclusively to describe women-- especially the ones who cut me off in traffic (a much lesser offense than Ruby or Bela are guilty of). Why should I hold a double standard for fictional characters? I don't see what other words Dean could/would/should have used. Tell me, O flist, what derogatory slurs should he have used instead? People in fandom call Dean a "slut" all the time. Is that misogyny? Or is it an effort to morph the word into having a less-gendered meaning? What about the Bitch/Jerk exchange. In that context it's okay, even celebrated in fandom. Please explain to me why that's okay, but using a slur as a slur isn't. (Rhetorical question, unless you really feel the need to answer) This link has a pretty good summary of my thoughts on the matter though.

The Storm!cats have been chasing a fly around the condo off and on for two hours. Mighty hunters they are not. I may have to invest in a flyswatter. (Also I think my screen door must have a gap, because how did the fly get in?)

A NSFW link to the Penis Festival. Hehehehe. *is twelvest*

I've been getting someone scanning my computer ports for the past week (or so my firewall tells me) and my virus protection found a "back-door trojan" in some files that I think it successfully quarantined. Is there any way for me to check for sure? I've run couple of virus checks and nothing was found, but I'm still a little concerned about it.

I'm really looking forward to having three days off. My big plans for tomorrow are to sit at the mechanics for about three hours while I get some maintenance done on Icarus. Or I may walk to the movie theater and catch a flick while they're working, but I'm not sure if the schedule will work out right for that-- have to check what movies are playing. If I can motivate myself to get up early enough I may go pick up some dim sum at NBC and reward myself for the tedium in advance.

Burn Notice starts up again July 10th. Must remember this.

[info]frayen! I know you've gotten into anime recently, but are you reading manga? If so, I need to pimp you Banana Fish. It's far and away my favorite manga. I'm thinking I should reread it this summer. Anyone else on my flist up for a group reading? I could set up a community and we could read a couple volumes each month and have discussions and links and things. Bueller?

Also! I almost forgot. LJ elections for the advisory board have started! You have till the 29th to vote. I think if you have a paid or permanent account you can vote once for each account, but I'm not real sure. It might be once per email address. It's a little confusing. Also I have my doubts about how effective it they will be, but as I'm not as invested in LJ as I have been in the past I figure what the heck.
