Income taxes are safely mailed off!
Things I am thankful for:
Alicia for the intangibles, Gretchen for the tangibles. Thanks guys, you made me feel loved yesterday.

My favorite twitter feeds:
@jeffrey_donovan - Burn Notice tidbits and cam photos from the set.
@sockington - silly cat antics

(Er, yes I have a twitter account. Mostly use it to follow other people. Texting on my phone gives me the hives 'cause it's just got a number keypad.)

So I have this horrible theory about Ruby that she's really Mary. I know there's been speculation that she's Meg, but what if something happened and she's really Mary? So it's pure speculation, but I've had this sick feeling that that's just the kind of thing that Kripke would pull. Please no spoilers!

I've seen some misconceptions about Dreamwidth on my flist the past few days. )

And with that I run away to work.

Because not all my flist is as deep into the SPN fandom as I am, I give you...
Hmm, I thought these were widely available, but maybe not. Some of the rarer Kane B-sides and live tracks I uploaded for a friend here.

Last week it was Youngblood, this week it was Untamed Heart. Work is trying to kill me with the nostalgia and tearjerkers.

Technically spoilery pictures, but not really because they're behind-the-scenes shots. My favorites... )

They were taken during shooting for this week's episode, but they're all behind-the-scenes and don't really give much away.

Now I have to run for work. Urg.

Scream 2008
Had a bitchin' time at the Scream Awards tonight. Both Jared and (Surprise!)JDM were in attendance. Despite the nosebleed seats, it was really fun. My first time at the Greek, and what a gorgeous venue that is. They had the pine trees in the background all lit up a la every horror movie in existence and there was even a little fog in the air. The costume I got worked a treat-- I ended up with glittery purple and black batwings and ears. (I actually came thisclose to buying feathery black angel wings and a black halo, but the wings were gigantic so I went with the smaller glittery bat instead. Sorry, Castiel, maybe another time.) For some reason they never gave out the award Jared was up for. Not sure if the show was running long or what. Maybe Johnny Depp won and it was all prerecorded. Who knows?

A few highlights:
- Tim Burton is a very brave men. They had him ride out over the audience on a rather rickety hot-air balloon contraption.
- Awesome finale that was a tribute to George Lucas, complete with stormtrooper honor guard and laser show.
- Marilyn Manson was kind of a dick.
- Julie Benz and Neve Campbell were gorgeous.
- Hellboy II actually won an award.
- The Dark Knight pretty much swept all their categories, including two awards for Heath Ledger.
- Sir Anthony Hopkins was there to accept a lifetime horror honoree award.
- Preview clip for Watchmen!! (It got the Most Anticipated Award, I think.)
- Also a Friday the 13th clip, but I think it's the same one they showed at Comic Con.
- Lots of fire effects and some pretty excellent stage design.
- The staged pieces were entertaining in an is-this-going-to-be-a-trainwreck? sort of way. See above re: fire.
- Free booze, though all of us had to drive so there was no over-imbibing, still how often does that happen?
- I think they said it's airing Tuesday on Spike TV, for anyone who cares to catch it.

*purrs* My other OTP... )

The state of me
Ahahaha! My Tinhat, let me showz you it. I was reading friendsfriends and someone was talking about an article in SPIN Magazine... I'm sure you can see where this is going... I almost even clicked on the link before my brain caught on.

Top Five Happy things today:
1) The Supernatural gag reel has been all over lately. After watching, I am slightly embarrassed for the boys! Eeee, who knew I had an embarrassment squick. But [info]destina has a glorious picspam to celebrate the fact that we can all throw away our tinhats now.

2) "The best film of the year is on HBO." I can't wait to see what people have to say after the last part airs tomorrow. I'll actually miss these guys. Or the actors who play these guys. Has anyone read the book? I am tempted to buy it.

3) (This should probably be number one, but I just found out and don't feel like renumbering.) My dad will be getting out of the hospital tomorrow. \o/ He's still got a lot of recovery to do and he'll be on a special diet possibly for at least a year. And he'll have to have more chemo, cut for possible squickiness ) But yaye, he'll be out of the hospital! Scribbles (well, Ste, actually) suggested a pedometer and I thought that might be a nice "get well soon" present. Anyone use one of those or have any recs for makes or models? (I'm thinking of this one.)

4) A fic rec that I'm not gonna use at [info]spnroundtable (I try not to recycle other people's recs and this one's been making the rounds recently, but it's a lovely story and you should all go read it.) And the Devil Makes Three by [info]killabeez. A future fic that picks up five years after "All Hell Breaks Loose." A kinda painful fic where Dean has a life after hunting and Sam can't let go. You can really feel the love between the brothers in this one. Sam/Dean, NC17.

5) More Supernatural doujinshi for me!

5a) New pants for $10. I have a coupon which is the best excuse ever to shop!

I have no idea what to make for food this week. Usually I cook one big main dish and eat the leftovers off and on during the week for my dinner breaks, interspersed with takeout and frozen dinners. Last week was taco salad, but I don't know what I want this week. Hmmm, I do have pasta in the freezer and lemon artichoke pesto from Trader Joe's.

Now I should go shower so I can go shopping. Whee! (I am in a much better mood than I was all last week, in case you can't tell.)

Green Eggs and Spam, Sam I am?
Why is all the gay porn these days of the Corbin Fisher variety. God, I hate that shit. Even gaypornforgirls seems to have faded into the sunset. Give me a little plot with my porn, please. (Am I the only one who sometimes imagines my favorite actors/characters in place of the porn actors? y/n? No? Just me then?)

I have joined fuelly. It looks like a nifty way to track your gas mpg and spending and so on. (Plus it does the math for you! \o/) I track that stuff anyway, but I'm actually too lazy to do the calculations, so I have all these receipts with the millage written on them, but no statistics. Here's me.

Most of you probably won't remember that my headlight went out a couple of months ago, then it mysteriously popped back on. It went out again three weeks ago. I've been really bad about getting it fixed. Promised my dad I'd have it taken care of by this weekend. :( Then I found out the guy who does wiring for Pep Boys won't be in till Monday. The dealer's service undergarment department (spellcheck ftmfw! \o/) was already closed by the time I called and my mechanic is closed until Tuesday. I feel like I fail at life this week.

SPN comic book thoughts: I've been buying the Supernatural comics ever since they first came out. But somehow I can't bring myself to read them-- mostly because of the huge glaring canon error in the second issue. I guess it really pissed me off. Yet I still faithfully buy them. WTF, self?

iPod meme:
I'll shuffle my iPod .
Give me a number between 1 and 443.
I upload the correlated song for you.

I'll even be nice and leave out the podfic.

Unpopular fannish opinion: Generation Kill )

Spoiler question for those who saw the SPN preview: Do you remember if Dean had his amulet on when he came back?

I wonder what Dean used to do when he had nightmares as a boy. Also I think Green Eggs and Ham was Sam's absolute favorite books as a child and he made Dean read it over and over and over to him:

I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

(Though nothing beats Fox in Socks. Dean used to con Sam into asking John to read that one.)

Oh, glee! Coffeemate has brought back their chai creamer in the big bottles! *dances* (They also had something called Black Cherry Streusel or something like that, which I think is a bid to cash in on the popularity of the Blueberry Cobbler. I bought one so we'll see how it tastes.)

Huh, Drama Queen belly up? (Sorry, flocked link.)

I have to take Spooks back to the vet tomorrow because they screwed up on her bloodwork. Grrr. I was hoping to get this all done before June started. At least she doesn't get carsick like Chase does.

Some helpful links if you know someone going through a serious illness. Patient/friend care.

Steve Carlson show last night was okay-- shorter than normal and didn't include the whole band. Dragyn, good thing you didn't come. *^_^* But the Chicken Molé (and company!) I had for dinner beforehand were excellent. I will never look at balloon animals the same way.

I can't wait for [info]spn_j2_bigbang fics. *vibrates*

I updated Firefox on my laptop and now my session saver doesn't work. >.< I'm glad I didn't upgrade on my desktop so all those saved sessions I intended to bookmark can still be opened. On the other hand, yaye for adblocker!

Ahahaha! I can haz Acklez nao plz. (Is there anyone who hasn't seen his ad for the Titanic pendant? Think if we all pooled our money we could hire him to shill for Astroglide or something?)

My sister is trying to talk my dad and stepmom into buying a laptop computer. I think they should go for an mp3 player instead because it's smaller, lighter and more portable, but what do I know. Hmmm.

Quiz that turned out surprsingly accurate despite only being one question... )

Now I'm gonna go have a beer and do the dishes. Both at the same time. Channeling both my inner Dean and my inner Sam. *^_^*

A post for Scribbles...
*peeks head out* Is the wankstorm over? (In browsing around the SPN misogyny wank, I did manage to find someone who I would wish into a cornfield though. /o\ Go me?) I do have thoughts on the matter, but I don't know if I feel like sharing them with the class. I don't like getting in disagreements with friends. Strangers are fine to disagree with because there usually isn't any lingering fallout and it's easy to just walk away. But that's also probably because I don't care about their opinions, whereas I do care about the opinions of my friends. It's funny that the OMG!misogyny side is screaming about being condescended to, yet in my browsing around and occasional commenting, I found that the worst offender of arrogance and condescension was by one of their most vocal members. I was basically attacked and had words and assumptions made about my motives that were completely inaccurate. For the record, I don't see misogyny in SPN. I use the word bitch all the time, pretty much exclusively to describe women-- especially the ones who cut me off in traffic (a much lesser offense than Ruby or Bela are guilty of). Why should I hold a double standard for fictional characters? I don't see what other words Dean could/would/should have used. Tell me, O flist, what derogatory slurs should he have used instead? People in fandom call Dean a "slut" all the time. Is that misogyny? Or is it an effort to morph the word into having a less-gendered meaning? What about the Bitch/Jerk exchange. In that context it's okay, even celebrated in fandom. Please explain to me why that's okay, but using a slur as a slur isn't. (Rhetorical question, unless you really feel the need to answer) This link has a pretty good summary of my thoughts on the matter though.

The Storm!cats have been chasing a fly around the condo off and on for two hours. Mighty hunters they are not. I may have to invest in a flyswatter. (Also I think my screen door must have a gap, because how did the fly get in?)

A NSFW link to the Penis Festival. Hehehehe. *is twelvest*

I've been getting someone scanning my computer ports for the past week (or so my firewall tells me) and my virus protection found a "back-door trojan" in some files that I think it successfully quarantined. Is there any way for me to check for sure? I've run couple of virus checks and nothing was found, but I'm still a little concerned about it.

I'm really looking forward to having three days off. My big plans for tomorrow are to sit at the mechanics for about three hours while I get some maintenance done on Icarus. Or I may walk to the movie theater and catch a flick while they're working, but I'm not sure if the schedule will work out right for that-- have to check what movies are playing. If I can motivate myself to get up early enough I may go pick up some dim sum at NBC and reward myself for the tedium in advance.

Burn Notice starts up again July 10th. Must remember this.

[info]frayen! I know you've gotten into anime recently, but are you reading manga? If so, I need to pimp you Banana Fish. It's far and away my favorite manga. I'm thinking I should reread it this summer. Anyone else on my flist up for a group reading? I could set up a community and we could read a couple volumes each month and have discussions and links and things. Bueller?

Also! I almost forgot. LJ elections for the advisory board have started! You have till the 29th to vote. I think if you have a paid or permanent account you can vote once for each account, but I'm not real sure. It might be once per email address. It's a little confusing. Also I have my doubts about how effective it they will be, but as I'm not as invested in LJ as I have been in the past I figure what the heck.

Links of fun and entertainment (well, for me at least. =P)
Trailer for the new Whedon series Dollhouse. (Man, if HBO isn't going to do anymore Milch series, they should snap up Whedon.)

If you know what Truckzilla is, you definitely should read this set-visit account from the fan that bought it. ♥ (spoilers for the last few episodes of the season)

I managed to register for ycon before the cheapie rate went away. \o/ (Ara and Pond, still up for that panel?)

Man, I'm going to have to go back and read all her commentaries about the show because [info]kroki_refur's illustrated recaps make me laugh out loud. The Supernatural Pretty Princess Collection indeed!

And someone compiled a list of older spoilery interviews and so on (which I have been avoiding so as not to be spoilered) here.

This is going to be an interesting election.

Apparently part of the season finale of SPN was a riff on a Twilight Zone episode, but did you know the Twilight Zone episode was a riff on a short story called The Good Life by Jerome Bixby?

[info]missyjack shows us the SPN finale in LOLcatz. (The singing one cracked me up.)

...the CW redefined its target audience as exclusively 18- to 34-year-old women. Dear Fandom: You know, making a fuss about misogyny in SPN to the network right now might not be such a wise idea if you want your fifth season. Just saying choose who you battle with. Love and puppies, me. (*snerks* "Our young audience certainly knows how to get their content in different ways, and we have to figure out different ways to measure how they're getting it.")(Also-- my fandom waited two whole days of hiatus before the wank started. I think that's a record.) I would wish you all into a cornfield, but I'm nicer than that.

I feel a disturbance in the Force Saiyuki fandom. Gaiden's getting good? Aren't they supposed to be coming out with that in English soonish? I mostly gave up on the rest of it, but Gaiden could probably suck me back in temporarily.

Five happy things:
1) Good family news.
2) Jacaranda trees are blooming in LA.
3) Made a bit of money on ebay.
4) Bought dimmers for the recessed lighting. (Now for the installing.)
5) I may have bought some SPN doujinshi on Yahoo Japan. *halo* (Good thing about #3. They about cancel each other out.)

I should go make dinner.

I am actually glad season 3 is over now. [spoilers] )

So I almost never read my flist on filter. Like maybe once every three months. But today I pulled up my spn filter to see everyone's reactions and... there's a whole lot more posts there than when I read my regular flist. Like twice as many posts. As if my regular flist isn't showing me everything. WTF LJ? It is possible I just skimmed yesterday to avoid spoilers, but I think I would have remembered some of those posts.

And I finally finished the project o'doom at work yesterday. *crosses fingers* HBO is getting really picky about their DVD releases and this one was a bitch of a project. (Recount, for the curious.) Dramatizations of real events are a pain because the research is intense. Some things are made-up and some things are real and you have to know which are which and make sure everything is spelled exactly right. And this was long and talky so I ended up working on it for almost the entire week. But it had Kevin Spacey and Denis Leary in it, so there were some perks. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH8gm9I0eM4

Spoiler Warning! I'm still unspoiled for the last episode and I'd like to stay that way. Supernatural! )

Ended up buying Jeremiah S1 with part of my tax stimulus because it was on sale. *^_^* (Still is on sale, actually.) I need to put some in my savings and some towards my credit cards and I'm trying to talk myself out of buying this pretty crafty necklace I like. I don't need it and probably won't wear it much and it's a little expensive, but it is gorgeous. I just tend to wear the same jewelry all the time. I also know there some big bpal updates coming soon.

Been listening to Steve Carlson's new album a lot lately. I really like it. There's only a couple of songs on it that don't grab me.

Yaye THURSDAY!
New ep tonight! I am so so nervous about the last two episodes this season because of how much Kripke cackled at Creation Con when talking about cliffhangers.

Why I love my show! (aka: Wasn't season two awesome?)

[info]sockkpuppett's Gimme Shelter vid, which is still one of my favorite SPN music vids ever. You can give her love here.

I think my goal this summer is going to be to figure out how to make a vid for myself. It's mostly a matter of cleaning off enough HD space, I think and installing the software since I have some editing experience already.
