Another scattered post written at various times over the previous week.

Hmm, what happened to [info]sanyin? I loved her fanfic. It's a shame it's gone.

Which also reminds me, roundtable recs.

Happy Friday the 13th.
Best way to dispute it if YouTube takes your videos down. Please note that this probably won't work if you're just reupping TV footage.

Unpopular fannish opinion? I think Jared looks more like a zombie and less like a goth in the new pictures. BRRRRAAAAIIINNNNNNNNS. (Okay, an emo!zombie, but still a zombie nonetheless.)

I have three goals for this weekend:
1) Do my income taxes.
2) Install Premiere on the laptop and futz around with it to see how I feel about making a music video.
3) Finish watching both Merlin and Sons of Anarchy.
4) Pay my bills.

Four! I have four goals for this weekend!

5) Figure out if it's worth devaluing my condo to get a better property tax rate.

Five! Five things! /Count von Count

Another thing we are captioning at work is Primeval. Cheesey full-of-plotholes BBC shows are fun! (even though I'm not a fan of time-travel dinosaur shows.*facepalm* And I can't help but point out the plotholes-- such as diving into a canal with automatic weapon would probably render said weapon useless. And sticking your bare arm in a giant prehistoric shark's gullet probably isn't the wisest move. Where the hell is your protective gear, you moronic scientist?)

Isn't there an SPN convention coming up before the LA Creation Con? Is it the one in NJ?

I am annoyed at the way heat moves in my condo this week. I turn up the heat and the living room gets toasty, but the bedroom stays cold. It's the same way in the summer but the other way around. I've got a fan blowing in the LR but it's not circulating air into the bedroom and I don't want to put a fan in the doorway. I think I need to experiment more with fan placement.

I am actually tempted by bpal's 13 blend this time. Mmmm, spicy dark-chocolatey goodness. But do I take a chance and buy a bottle untested and pay an arm and leg for shipping? Or try and swap for one after the fact? Or just settle for a decant?

Happy New Year to you too.
Ugh, the new Mitchell from Being Human. He's a little too Broody McBrooderson for me. The old snarky Mitchell was my favorite of the trio.

Can I be nosy for a minute and ask who all on my flist is going to Wincon this year? I'd love to visit Colorado in the fall and meeting friends is always a good thing, but I'm having some introvert issues, like no one will talk to me or hang out with me and I'll be left sitting in a corner all alone. *^_^* If I go I want to get the earlybird rate which means I've got four days to decide. Someone will talk to me if I go, right?

As for job crap, I'm sticking my head in the sand until they actually tell me I have to work five days a week and move to Burbank. Maybe the economy will magically get better in that time or I'll win the lottery. In good news, after today I have the rest of the week off. Lots of things I have to do that I didn't get done last weekend because I was reading fanfic though.

Of course my boss at work set up the 10 hour-4 day week schedule while I was out of town. Of course he didn't talk to me about it beforehand at all, even though they promised they would. Of course they expected me to start that this week on my first day back from vacation with no notice. Of course I said no. >.< Really? You want me to work an extra 8 hours this week when I already used my vacation time to cover it?

Link spam: You would think they would have changed the directions after the first time it happened!

Back to season #2 screencaps )

We're doing a trial of the 4 day/10 hours work week next month. They decided on a two-week- to a month-long trial before instituting it to make sure "it works for us and operations." I think I can have my choice of Monday, Wednesday or Friday off, but I'm not sure. We're going to be talking about the schedules on an individual basis next week.

Two week countdown...
Jesus Christ, I hate the people in power more and more. I think it's time for another donation to the ACLU. "It basically criminalizes political advocacy.". Gee, why aren't the major news outlets covering this? (Well, except for Minnesota public radio, but I don't think they qualify as "major.")

And in more political news, you know it's bad when even your own party is dissing you. But hey, here's a one major new outlet doing a good job of digging out the truth.

Okay, done with politics. You can resume reading now. *^_^*

In happier things: I keep forgetting how much I love Entourage until we get it in at work again and we all cluster around one computer to watch scenes and there's laughter in our office again. Ari Gold will always be my favorite 14-year-old boy sleazy agent.

LOLcatz are taking over the world. *puts it on Christmas wishlist*

I watched a few movies last weekend. Your mileage may vary... )

TGIF
Five fun funny things:
Okay, there was a snarky list here that I have since decided was too mean and I deleted it.

Instead I give you this:
This vid made me grin like a loon. Not because of the music, but because they caught some awesome moments that people don't often use in vids.

When does the new season of Dexter start? I feel the need for more serial killer in my life.

Something not so funny. Something that should make you pissed off.

Yet at the same time, the California Supreme Court continues to rock. (Check out the graph linked at the end too.)

In work news, earlier this week I captioned a new music video by... wait for it... Glen Campbell! It was surprisingly catchy and I can't get the chorus out of my head (It's called "Sing" if you run across it anywhere.) Then in music video news I am somewhat ashamed to admit, I kinda liked the Demi Lovato one I captioned too. Though I'd have guessed the girl was in her early 20s and not 16-year-old! Yikes. Also it turns out we won't be getting True Blood to caption for whatever reason. Which means I probably won't watch it. *^_^*

My big goals for the weekend include cleaning off my coffee table (an all-day job itself) and doing a set of [info]spnroundtable recs.

I haven't done this in a while... )

We had to stay late at work Monday night for a rush commercial job that just HAD to be done tonight. (ie: "Oh, we have no idea when it will arrive, but it absolutely has to be done tonight!")

This is that commercial. We were all pretty pissed when we saw what we had waited to caption. >.< Needless to say, my workplace tends toward a more liberal bent.

Need to remember to pay bills tomorrow!
Bought a ticket for Comic Con over the weekend. Just for Sunday though. Being there for four days last year wore me out, so just going for what I want to see. Anyone else on my flist going? (okay, dumb question. I know some of you are. Humor me.)

I did nothing over the long weekend and enjoyed it. Of course that meant I had to do laundry and dishes Monday morning.

If you've got HBO, you should try to catch Generation Kill. It's a BBC co-produced miniseries based on a book by a Rolling Stone reporter who was embedded with a Marine recon unit in Iraq at the beginning of the war. I guess they'd call it a docu-drama because it's a recreation not a documentary, but it's really well done and will really make you feel for the soldiers caught in the middle. I bet it's HBO's big Emmy winner next year. There's at least three Marines from the real First Recon unit in it. I saw someone describe it as the ultimate road trip movie.

Trailer:

I still crave a Burn Notice / Supernatural crossover like crazy. Can you imagine the snark if Dean and Michael ever ran into each other? Sam W. would totally have a crush on Michael and it would make Dean pissy. Dean would hit on Fi and get his balls ripped off (metaphorically), then bond with Sam A. over beer. Or Maybe Michael and Dean would bond over gadgets. Michael would be very skeptical about the supernatural unless he came face to face with it. I think about these things too much.

Really good amnesia!Dean big bang over here: What Remains by [info]walkawayslowly. Sam/Dean and the most gorgeous art I've seen yet for the big bangs. "This is the one where Dean loses his memory and himself, and Sam has to find both."

I love my state.

I should probably go to bed now.

Is it Friday yet?
Pira over on IJ just got back from a two-week trip to Kyoto and she's got some gorgeous pictures up with interesting commentary. For all you arm-chair travelers. ;)

I worked on a foreign film last night-- The Rebel, in Vietnamese (and some French) and I kept recognizing one of the actors' voice. Finally I had to go to IMDB to check out if it was who I thought it was. It was! \o/ Harry! Dustin Nguyen from 21 Jump Street. He's aged welllll! Now I am curious if he's moved back to Vietnam. ETA: Nope, just filmed a couple of movies there.

I am a thief:

1. One Movie that Made you Laugh: Bull Durham
2. One Movie that Made you cry: Black Hawk Down
3. One Movie that you loved when you were a child: Where the Red Fern Grows
4. One Movie that you've seen more than once: Hedwig and the Angry Inch
5. One Movie you loved but were embarrassed to admit it: Class
6. One Movie that you hated: Dogville
7. One Movie that Scared You: Invasion of the Body Snatchers
8. One Movie that bored you: Velvet Goldmine
9. One Movie that bored you, everyone loves but you don’t see why: It's a Wonderful Life.
10. One Movie that made you miserable: Grave of the Fireflies (Steals answer too.)
11. One Movie that you weren't brave enough to see: Schindler's List
12. One Movie character that you've fallen in love with: Paul Maclean
13. The Last Movie you saw: at home: Ghostbusters, at the theater: Indian Jones and the Crystal Skull
14. The Next Movie you hope to see: Prince Caspian, maybe. Or Iron Man. Something that comes out on my birthday, perhaps. Hancock.
15. Your Favorite Movie: Hard Boiled

I am actually glad season 3 is over now. [spoilers] )

So I almost never read my flist on filter. Like maybe once every three months. But today I pulled up my spn filter to see everyone's reactions and... there's a whole lot more posts there than when I read my regular flist. Like twice as many posts. As if my regular flist isn't showing me everything. WTF LJ? It is possible I just skimmed yesterday to avoid spoilers, but I think I would have remembered some of those posts.

And I finally finished the project o'doom at work yesterday. *crosses fingers* HBO is getting really picky about their DVD releases and this one was a bitch of a project. (Recount, for the curious.) Dramatizations of real events are a pain because the research is intense. Some things are made-up and some things are real and you have to know which are which and make sure everything is spelled exactly right. And this was long and talky so I ended up working on it for almost the entire week. But it had Kevin Spacey and Denis Leary in it, so there were some perks. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH8gm9I0eM4
